What does clinical supervision focus on?
-
Build confidence completing comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, mastering differential diagnosis (using the DSM-5-TR), and matching client needs to appropriate services.
-
A dedicated space to process the emotional impact of your work, fostering self-care and long-term professional sustainability.
-
Gain an objective, professional perspective on challenging clinical scenarios, diagnostic considerations, treatment interventions, and rapport building strategies.
-
Develop skills for assessing and managing risk for self-harm and harm to others, safety planning, and building familiarity with community crisis resources.
-
Focus on cultural humility, non-oppressive practice, and understanding how race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and socioeconomic status impact the client, the work, and the therapeutic relationship.
-
Access support and feedback to ensure that notes, treatment plans, and correspondence meet ethical, legal, and agency standards.
-
Learn realistic strategies to apply the NASW Code of Ethics to complex practice dilemmas, including boundaries, informed consent, confidentiality, and technology use.
-
Deepen your understanding and application of social work theories, models, and evidence-based practices (EBPs). Additionally, supervision can be a useful tool for exploring personal values, strengths, and potential biases, and how they impact clients and influence case outcomes.
-
Learn how to develop treatment plans, utilize evidence-based practices (EBPs) relevant to your setting, and integrate various treatment modalities into your clinical practice.
A note about confidentiality and client protections
Protecting the Protected Health Information (PHI) of clients is our shared priority.
Consultation is an ethical practice designed to benefit client care. To maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and the NASW Code of Ethics:
When presenting a case, supervisees must always protect the client's identity. We will refer to clients by initials or "the client."
The content of consultation sessions will be kept confidential. As a licensed professional, I am bound by the same ethical and legal standards regarding privacy and confidentiality as supervisees.
